K Narahari Sastry

SUTHRAMELA Puppeteers’ troupe was established by Sri K Narahari Sastry (1933-2021), the doyen of Karnataka’s traditional rod and string puppetry, to educate, popularize and promote puppetry to wider audience. His efforts to revive the puppetry art form, contribution and performances have been appreciated with recognitions including Yakshagana Bayalata Akademy award, Nadaprabhu Kempegowda award. He has also performed Karnataka’s puppetry in Switzerland and Austria.

Ravindra Narahari

SUTHRAMELA team currently led by Sri Ravindra Narahari, recipient of Manju Daasa Award 2025 by Mohana Tarangini Sangeeta Sabha, Karunada Sourabha Ratna Award by Kannada NudiMuttu Sahitya Vedike Karnataka at 3rd Sahitya Sammelana 2025 - Dharwar for puppetry art, has performed puppet shows at several esteemed stages and forums including IGNCA Regional Centre Bengaluru, Ministry of Culture, Govt of India, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Bangalore – Infosys foundation, Dept. of Performing Arts, Bangalore University, National Seminar at Karnataka State Dr. Gangubai Hanagal Music and Performing Arts University, Mysore, Rotary North Bangalore, and cultural events at Hassan, Shimoga, Tumkur, Gauribidnur, Mulbagal.

On invitation, SUTHRAMELA team stages workshops and shows in schools, colleges and cultural institutions. SUTHRAMELA team is relentlessly working with passion and commitment continuing the legacy of Sri K Narahari Sastry and the ancestors to revive this fading art. Their efforts require all support and encouragement.
